Google discontinued Project Mariner on May 4, 2026, redirecting the technology to Gemini Agent and AI Mode. Originally launched in December 2024, the tool executed web tasks and eventually managed up to 10 simultaneous actions. Its capabilities now fuel features like auto-browse in Chrome and agentic search functions. This consolidation precedes Google I/O on May 19, where new AI features are expected to debut.
