Google has launched the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform at Cloud Next ’26, officially replacing Vertex AI as the company's comprehensive system for building and governing agents. The platform distinguishes itself by embedding governance directly into the architecture, mandating a unique cryptographic identity for every agent to ensure traceability and auditing through a central Agent Gateway. This release addresses a significant industry disparity identified by OutSystems and Gartner: although 97% of organizations are exploring agentic strategies, only 36% utilize centralized governance, and a mere 11-14% of pilots successfully reach production due to security complexity and integration failures.
