openai met with around 40 mathematicians in august to discuss releasing ai-generated solutions to longstanding math problems. attendees advised openai to publish papers explaining the work, but the company reportedly ignored this advice. openai now plans to release over 100 solutions on github, following a previous release of 10 problems. mathematicians are concerned that openai and rival anthropic are prioritizing showing off their models over traditional scientific processes, with some accusing openai of 'mobster behavior' and 'front-running' their work.
