youtube is redesigning its ai disclosure system to place labels directly below the video player or as an overlay on shorts, making them immediately visible to viewers. alongside this ui change, the platform is deploying new internal signals this month to automatically identify and label photorealistic ai content, closing a gap where creators could bypass rules by not self-reporting. while creators can update the disclosure status in youtube studio to correct errors, labels applied based on c2pa metadata or google synthid markers will remain permanent. youtube clarified that these labels exist for context and will not directly influence monetization or recommendation algorithms.
