OpenAI turns ChatGPT into an operating system
openai opens internal plugin platform to outside developers and adds team features like shared workspace and automated workflows. this pushes chatgpt beyond chatbot roots.
openai revealed a new chatgpt that looks less like a chatbot and more like an operating system at devday. the company opened its internal plugin platform to outside developers, allowing them to build interactive panels inside chatgpt. openai also added team features like shared workspace 'chatgpt space', collaborative documents called 'pages', and a slide deck tool. chatgpt can now trigger automated workflows when something happens in a connected app through the mcp events specification and team tasks. the assistant works directly inside slack and microsoft teams through @mentions. openai launched the pro 500 plan, 'sign in with chatgpt' for quota-based usage across 16 third-party tools, and a marketplace with 32 partners. this pushes chatgpt well beyond its chatbot roots and puts openai on a collision course with at least slack, notion, and google workspace.
