Meta acquired Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI) to bolster its humanoid robotics ambitions. ARI co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs research division to develop frontier capabilities for robot control and self-learning. ARI previously focused on foundation models enabling robots to perform household chores and adapt to dynamic environments.

This acquisition follows Amazon's recent purchase of Fauna Robotics, co-founded by Pinto. Industry experts view physical world interaction as a critical path toward AGI. Market projections for the humanoid robotics sector vary widely, from $38 billion by 2035 to $5 trillion by 2050.
