Google's Gemini 4 model nears launch, aims to catch up in AI race

google's new frontier ai model, gemini 4, is almost ready according to koray kavukcuoglu, the new head of google deepmind. gemini 4 is currently in its refinement stage and the company plans to launch it much earlier than the end of 2026. google has been lagging behind rivals openai and anthropic, who have released gpt-6 and mythos series models respectively. google's last flagship ai model was gemini 3 series in november 2025.
