goldman sachs expects big tech companies, including amazon, alphabet, microsoft, oracle, and meta, to spend a combined $1.2 trillion on ai infrastructure by 2027. this forecast surpasses wall street's consensus of $1.1 trillion and represents a more than 50% increase from the roughly $800 billion projected for this year. the growth rate is expected to slow down significantly, from nearly 100% in 2026 to 54% in 2027 and 12% in 2028. to justify these investments, the companies would need to generate about $300 billion a year in ai revenue. while current earnings are still short, cloud revenue growth has shown improvement, jumping from 25% in 2024 to 48% in q2 2026.
