Alexa+ is free on Fire TV — and you can't opt out
amazon made its generative ai assistant alexa+ free for all fire tv users, removing the previous $19.99/month barrier. the automatic upgrade signals a shift to aggressive, non-optional ai distribution.
amazon rolled out its generative ai assistant, alexa+, to all compatible fire tv devices in the u.s. as a free, automatic update, dropping the separate subscription model. the update brings conversational content search, which allows users to request shows by genre or premise, and integrated smart home controls. amazon reports users have nearly twice as many voice conversations with the new assistant compared to the legacy version. this strategy aligns with industry trends from google and roku, shifting tvs from passive entertainment screens to active, ai-driven interfaces.
