AI slop eats e-commerce as fake seed scams flood Amazon and Etsy
scammers use ai to generate fake plant images on amazon and etsy, defrauding buyers and polluting platform search results with non-existent inventory.
fraudsters are leveraging ai image generators to market seeds for non-existent plants on major e-commerce platforms including amazon, ebay, and etsy. listings for bio-impossible flora like rainbow-colored roses and sunflowers blooming in the shape of cat heads have sold tens of thousands of units, with one ebay seller moving 37,271 packets of fake rose seeds before being banned. this proliferation of 'ai slop' not only defrauds consumers but also degrades search engine results and marketplace trust, as platforms struggle to distinguish between real gardening inventory and machine-generated hallucinations.
