Appfigures reports image model releases generate 6.5 times more downloads than traditional text model updates. Google Gemini gained 22 million downloads following its image model release, while ChatGPT added 12 million installs after introducing GPT-4o image capabilities. Meta AI's video feed 'Vibes' contributed 2.6 million downloads.
Despite driving installs, image features rarely yield immediate revenue. Only ChatGPT successfully converted the update launch into $70 million in gross consumer spending. Google's 'Nano Banana' generated only $181,000, and Meta AI saw no meaningful revenue increase from 'Vibes'.
