Health care providers are shifting their AI strategy toward partnerships. A McKinsey study found 61% of health care organizations intend to partner with third-party vendors to develop customized generative AI solutions, favoring collaboration over in-house building or off-the-shelf products. This strategy aims to address specific clinical and operational needs while avoiding implementation failures common in complex health care environments.

Adoption faces significant hurdles despite rising AI utilization. The FDA reports approval of over 1,300 AI-enabled medical devices, with more than 50% authorized in the past three years. However, 77% of surveyed technology leaders cite immature AI tools as a major barrier to adoption. Furthermore, 72% of leaders prioritize reducing caregiver burden, while 53% focus on workflow efficiency, highlighting a demand for administrative tools over purely clinical applications.
