apple has delayed the release of camera-equipped airpods, a device intended to give siri visual capabilities for tasks like navigation and identifying food. the company confirmed that while the physical hardware is ready in late-stage testing, siri's visual intelligence software fails to meet performance standards. executives are hesitant to release the product due to significant privacy concerns and a lack of killer applications that justify the potential surveillance risks. this delay underscores the difficulty in processing visual data locally and the challenges of expanding ai models beyond text.
