shopify has launched canvas, a new site-building tool that allows merchants to create online stores by chatting with an ai agent called sidekick. canvas displays changes in real-time, allowing merchants to see the overall store or focus on details. sidekick can make changes directly to the store's code, eliminating the need for coding or developers. this tool is part of a broader shift towards ai-powered site-building and could make e-commerce more accessible to those without coding experience or budgets for developers.
