satlyt, founded by rama afullo, a former google and spacex product manager, has raised $8m to develop software for running ai models on satellites. the company's approach is to offer a horizontally integrated, open ecosystem for satellite computing, similar to vmware and snowflake. satlyt's software has already been tested on two demonstration missions, including one with google deepmind's gemma ai model, which reduced transmission size by over 60%. the company plans to launch its software on a spacex rocket alongside google's project suncatcher prototype.
