andrej karpathy, co-founder of openai and current researcher at anthropic, developed two video platforms, hackertube and tristantube, over a weekend. for hackertube, he utilized claude's opus 5.5 model to sift through 43 million comments from 20 years of hacker news, curating them into 6,454 videos. karpathy attributes the efficiency of these projects to claude's capabilities, stating that tasks which previously took weeks can now be accomplished in just a few hours. hackertube provides a unique viewing experience with no login required, displays a single mid-video frame instead of thumbnails, and stores state locally in the browser. additionally, karpathy created tristantube in just three minutes using claude code, which handled nearly all the work including data analysis and server setup.
