google announced it will disable ai tools for k-12 students next year unless school administrators opt-in. this change affects gemini, notebooklm, gemini in classroom, and google search. schools that choose to restrict ai will lose access to google search as ai features are now integrated into the search engine. this decision gives schools control over ai use but also forces them to accept ai features if they want to keep using google search. google will share more specifics with schools in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
